Guacamole is a Mexican dip made with avocados. Avocados are super healthy and offer a bucket full of health benefits. Avocados are an excellent source of mono and polyunsaturated fats - the "good fat" that can help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. In addition, avocados offer wide ranging anti inflammatory benefits. One whole avocado contains nearly 12 g of fibre, including soluble and insoluble, both of which your body needs to keep the digestive system running smoothly. Plus, the soluble fibre slows down breakdown of carbohydrates in your body helping you feel full for longer.
We love avocados and I use them in salads, burgers, sandwiches, quesadillas and of course to whip up this super delicious guacamole. We are hooked on avocados!!
Ingredients
- 3 large ripe avocados
- 1 tomato
- 1 small red onion
- 2 green chillies chopped fine
- 2-3 garlic cloves minced
- 1/4 cup cilantro chopped fine
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
Method
- Cut, peel and de-seed the avocados.
- In a bowl, mash the avocados coarsely.
- Add the onions, tomatoes, garlic, green chillies, cilantro, salt, pepper, lemon juice and mix well. Adjust lemon juice to taste.
- Chill and serve with multi grain tortilla chips or any chips of your choice.
- If not serving immediately, cover the bowl with a plastic wrap to prevent oxidation and refrigerate.
Notes
- The use of onion is completely optional. I hardly ever use onion in the guacamole and I think it tastes great even without the onion.
